Canine & Equine Stem Cell Banking - Spay, Neuter & Umbilical Stem Cell Storage

Equine veterinarians

The therapeutic use of equine stem cells is increasing. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have proven to be effective in both clinical trials and veterinary practices to treat orthopedic and other conditions.  It is possible to obtain a stem cell sample from a bone marrow aspiration or a Stromal Vascular Fraction, which includes some stem cells, from the adipose tissue of an adult horse. But, both are painful and invasive surgical procedures performed on an elderly or ill animal.  VetiCell is proud to introduce an alternative to this type of procedure.

MSCs can be obtained from a horse’s umbilical cord at birth.  This mirrors the human model where a baby’s cord tissue is often harvested and preserved for later use. The Wharton’s Jelly of a horse’s cord is a concentrated and rich source of MSCs.  There is also evidence that newborn stem cells are superior to those obtained from adult or ill animals. *

VetiCell believes horse owners and breeders should have the option to harvest and preserve their animal’s MSCs for later use. VetiCell compensates veterinarians for each reproductive collection performed.  You may receive inquiries from your clients who have been in direct contact with us or have encountered our marketing materials. We invite you, your staff and these clients to contact us so we may answer any questions or coordinate enrollment with VetiCell.

After registering with VetiCell, your client is sent a collection kit. It includes all collection materials needed and a full set of detailed instructions for them and you. We are always available directly to answer any questions. The client will provide this kit when you arrive for the birth.  Collection is performed by you immediately after foaling.  No incisions or drugs are needed in order to complete the VetiCell collection. You simply place the umbilical cord into the two sterile specimen cups we provide, complete a single sheet of paperwork and seal the kit for delivery.  Shipping will be arranged by the owner/breeder and us.  Our laboratory results can be supplied to your clinic upon your request.

Many clinics routinely discuss our process with their customers. If you are interested in introducing this program to them, we have several ways to support you and your staff. We have free information cards you can distribute; we have a discreet “partner” logo and hyperlink for your website.  We can even leave complimentary collection kits with you for last minute enrollments.  For each horse's umbilical cord collected, you will receive a collection fee.
