Innovative therapies to fight disease in both humans and animals are continually being developed. Recently, incredible progress has been made in the field of “regenerative medicine” through the use of stem cells. Today it is not uncommon for a veterinarian to recommend stem cell therapy for a dog or horse.
Stem Cells are the source of replenishment and repair. They have the unique ability to evolve into specialized cells, thus naturally regenerating tissue that has been damaged or diseased. Until now, stem cells could only be obtained through a painful surgical procedure on your animal. Surgery on an ill or elderly animal can result in pulmonary, cardiac, or kidney failure, as well as risking wound infection. Surgery always results in pain. It is also a very expensive way to collect your animal’s stem cells, usually costing several thousands of dollars.
VetiCell has changed how you collect and use these vital stem cells. We are the first company to offer collection of animal stem cells entirely non-invasively, or without an additional invasive procedure. The tissue, rich in stem cells, is sent to our lab, processed, and cryogenically saved in our clinic for potential use later in your animal’s life.
The most common use of stem cells in the veterinary market today is with orthopedic injuries and illnesses. Research at veterinary medical schools and centers are studying many other conditions and diseases for potential therapy. The future of stem cell therapy looks promising.
